Our Client is an innovative driller with rigs across North America always looking to improve the service offering to their clients, the largest and most profitable E&P companies. They wanted a way to take key
data points from rig instrumentation to show their customers an overview of their rig operations for any point in time, from an overall summary of drilling progress to details such as tripping speed by driller
within a given set of parameters,
all for any specific well.

Business Problem

So much data is now available from a modern Drilling Rig and yet there is no consistent format to provide the key data points to the well owner.

Other reporting solutions in the industry are static with no ability to interact with nor filter the data in an ad-hoc manner.

Proven Solution

Spotfire was chosen to present the data using intuitive visualizations based on both current industry-defined key metrics as well as innovative data aggregations and relationships.

Cadeon was asked to assist with updating already-developed visualizations in addition to developing new ones. There was also the requirement to develop efficient techniques of connecting to and querying the underlying data within the Spotfire environment.

The report was primarily sourced on data from Electronic Drilling Recorder (EDR) 10-second interval data, tying in additional data such as that from tour sheets. The data was sourced using both database views and parameter-driven stored procedures.

Due to the large volume of data contained in some of these datasets the solution incorporated them into Spotfire as on-demand, which allowed for the use of parameters to reduce the volume of data being returned.
